Maribyrnong

The northern most suburb in City of Maribyrnong area, the suburb of Maribyrnong is almost surrounded by the Maribyrnong River, which forms its northern, eastern and part of its western boundary. The older housing in the area dates from the 1950s and 1960s, but large deposits of land have been recently reclaimed for housing. The addition of housing developments (such as the Edgewater Estate along the Maribyrnong River) has contributed to the population growth of Maribyrnong to around 9,000 people today, and growth is expected to continue in the future.

Major features in the suburb of Maribyrnong are Highpoint City Shopping Centre, one of Australia’s largest shopping centres, and Pipemakers Park which incorporates Melbourne’s living museum. Medway Gold Club and Victoria University’s Student Village is close by, providing an eventful atmosphere during the semester, and there are several parks to enjoy.

Public Transport is easily accessible, with several bus lines servicing the area and proximity to various train and tram lines. There are many major roads surrounding Maribyrnong so driving into or out of the city is uncomplicated.
